history

Up Potsdam 1965

The club was founded in 1957 as a badminton section at the BSG Empor Potsdam (trading company) by Dieter Ballwanz and 7 other athletes who at that time took part in the active game operation in the Potsdam district of the BFA (district technical committee) badminton. By 1966 the number of members grew to 24 and in the same year a school and youth team was founded under the new chairman Ernst Hoppe. In the course of this, the number of members grew to 50 members. At that time, the active players won district championships in singles, doubles and mixed games, and 19 GDR championship titles were won among the seniors. In 1968 the section changed to SG Dynamo Potsdam (People's Police) for financial reasons . In 1969 the GDR championship was held in Potsdam and in 1970 the league was promoted to the GDR. In 1972, the association switched again to Turbine Potsdam (energy combine and water company) for financial reasons. In 1976 Anne Deppner took part in an international competition in Glubczyce (Poland) as the representative of the association. After promotion to the Oberliga B in 1978, secured at the promotion tournament in Leipzig , relegation to the GDR league followed 6 years later.
