The BECON Berlin confection arose after the turn of the VEB Progress Men's Clothing , the largest operation for menswear East Germany, based in Berlin-Lichtenberg .

history

In 1927 the two independent companies Peek & Cloppenburg KG Berlin and Peek & Cloppenburg KG Hamburg jointly founded the men's clothing factory Beha GmbH. The buildings of a textile factory built in 1907 in the area of Möllendorffstrasse, Rudolf-Reusch-Strasse and Normannenstrasse in Berlin-Lichtenberg were used.

In autumn 1945 Beha GmbH was confiscated by the Soviet military administration and administered until 1946. Until the merger with 17 other clothing stores to form the Progress GmbH clothing factory in 1948, Beha GmbH was subordinate to the Lichtenberg district office. Until the founding of the VEB Herrenbekleidung Progress on June 20, 1949, the Bekleidungswerke Progress GmbH was subject to the German Treuhandverwaltung.

After the dissolution of the combine in 1990, parts of the former VEB Herrenbekleidung Progress merged with Becon Holding AG , which continued to operate in the ready-to- wear business with various companies such as Becon classic GmbH . In 1993 Concordia Bau & Boden AG and Kolb & Schüle AG each acquired 50 percent of Becon classic GmbH. The administration and production buildings in Lichtenberg were given up. The company was strengthened by the acquisition of the brands Rikson, MAT (Man about Town) and Filippo Alpi as well as a 50 percent stake in the trading company Intra-Textil Berlin. In 1996 production was stopped and the company headquarters was relocated to Berlin-Weißensee . At the end of 1996 Kolb & Schüle sold the operational part that had been outsourced as BECON Classic Berliner Confektion GmbH & Co. KG to Ritex AG. Due to inconsistencies in the purchase contract, BECON Classic Berliner Confektion GmbH & Co. KG had to file for bankruptcy in 1997 .

The company was absorbed in the same year under the name BECON Berliner Confektion GmbH by the Aydinli Group and Berlin Clothing GmbH. The trademark rights were transferred from the bankruptcy estate to the new owner BECON Berliner Confektion GmbH .

The BECON Group was restructured in 2016. The previously independent operating companies were merged under the name Becon Berliner Confection GmbH . In November 2016, a new flagship store was opened on Hausvogteiplatz . The company's focus is on the production of suits, shirts and accessories for men and women under fair conditions and avoiding low-wage countries.
