BHS-Sonthofen is a mechanical and plant engineering company specializing in filtration, recycling, mixing and crushing technology. The headquarters of the medium-sized company is in Sonthofen . The origins go back to the beginning of the 17th century. The company has several subsidiaries and serves customers worldwide in various industries.

history

The company's location was first mentioned in 1607 as an iron smelter . It has wrought iron made on the basis of iron ore from the surrounding area. As a result of the Reichsdeputation Hauptschluss , in 1803 the plant changes from the prince-bishop's ownership to the Bavarian state. The entry into mechanical engineering began in the second half of the 19th century and soon became increasingly important. Even then, the first mixers for concrete production and crushers for rock processing were manufactured. Until the end of the First World War, the plant operated as the “Royal Bavarian Hüttenwerk Sonthofen”. With the establishment of the Free State of Bavaria , the Hüttenamt became a branch of the state-owned company BHS-Bayerische Berg-, Hütten- und Salzwerke AG, Munich. In the 20th century, the location expanded into other fields of mechanical engineering. In 1996 BHS-Sonthofen became legally independent and privatized in its current structure. Since then, business activities have expanded considerably. The export quota has been around 80% for years.

Business areas

The company is active in three fields of mechanical process engineering:

Mixing and crushing technology
The product range includes mixers for the building materials industry, in particular for concrete production , as well as crushing machines , in particular impact crushers and impact mills , for the production of aggregates .
Filtration technology
Various filter systems for solid-liquid separation are available. They are used in the chemical industry , the pharmaceutical industry , in the production of food and in the environmental sector.
Recycling technology
Shredding machines for processing various valuable materials are manufactured and complete recycling systems are planned and implemented.

Corporate structure

Around 250 people are employed at the headquarters in Sonthofen. All products of the three fields of work are manufactured there. Since 2001 there has been a production plant in Tianjin / China with around 100 employees to serve the Far Eastern markets. There are subsidiaries for sales and service in the USA, China, India, Russia and Australia. BHS-Sonthofen holds 100% of the shares in all subsidiaries.

In April 2018, the company took over all shares in AVA GmbH & Co. KG, Herrsching am Ammersee. The acquisition complements the mixing technology area with additional products and applications. Above all, there are synergies in the area of solid-liquid separation from the combination of our own filtration technology with the drying technology of AVA. As a result, BHS is able to offer mechanical and thermal process technology as a coordinated system solution for solid-liquid separation
