BIGSAS journalist award
The BIGSAS Journalist Prize is a journalist prize awarded by the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies , or BIGSAS for short. It honors outstanding journalism about Africa, which "points beyond the often crisis-driven image of Africa in the media and breaks up existing prejudices".
history
The BIGSAS Journalist Award was created on the occasion of the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa. It has been awarded every two years since 2011 and is endowed with prize money of 2500 euros. Contributions that have appeared in German-language print and online media can be submitted. The jury consists of alumni of the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies and is headed by the geographer and former President of the University of Bayreuth Helmut Ruppert .
