BILOfix was a wooden construction toy developed by Ole Kirk Christiansen . The name BILO is derived from “ Bil lund and O le Kirk Christiansen”.

toy

BILOfix was aimed at children between the ages of 36 months and six years. All building blocks and axes were made of woods such as maple and beech , and a number of connecting elements such as screws, nuts and tools were made of plastic, the same material as the well-known Lego bricks. The connecting elements were universally applicable.

The components were offered in a model box with illustrated assembly instructions, so you could first build a few models. The components can also be combined to create any new constructions.

There were also extension boxes with gears , worms , chains and an electric motor ( gear motor ) with a battery box .

history

The factory was founded in Billund in 1955 by Gerhardt Kirk Christiansen, one of the four sons of Ole Kirk Christiansen, who also developed the well-known LEGO. After a fire at LEGO in Billund in 1962, the four brothers of the Kirk Christiansen family decided to not to resume the production of wooden toys. BILOfix then moved to Kolding. In order to avoid confusion with the Baufix known in Germany, BILOfix was renamed BILOtoy.

From 1969 to 1972 Revell GmbH took over the sales of BILOtoy. Since the desired success of BILOtoy, now called Revell BILOtoy, did not materialize, BILOtoy went back to LEGO and was renamed HANSEtec.
