The BKK Berlin was a German statutory health insurance from the group of company health insurance funds .

It was founded on April 21, 1900 as a company health insurance fund for the municipality of Berlin . On January 24, 1958, it was re-established as a company health insurance fund for the state and city of Berlin. It was an agency of the Senate of Berlin and only employees of the State of Berlin could take out insurance from it. Shortly before German reunification, on May 1, 1989, the name was changed to the BKK des Landes Berlin (BKK Berlin). Since 1996 the health insurance company has also been open to members from other professional groups. The basis for this was the right to a free choice of health insurance fund introduced in 1996. On January 1, 2004, the BKK Berlin merged with the BKK Hamburg to form City BKK .
