The BKK Hamburg was a German statutory health insurance from the group of company health insurance funds .

It was founded on October 1, 1903 as a company health insurance fund for the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg . It was an agency of the Hamburg Senate and only employees of the City of Hamburg could take out insurance from it. On December 1, 1995, there was a merger with BKK Hamburger Hochbahn AG . Since 1996 the health insurance company has also been open to members from other professional groups. The basis for this was the right to a free choice of health insurance fund introduced in 1996. In 1997 the name was changed to BKK Stadt Hamburg; on January 1, 2001 there was another name change to BKK Hamburg. On January 1, 2004, the BKK Berlin merged with the BKK Hamburg to form City BKK .
