ELNA 5 is the name for a number of tank locomotives that were built according to the ELNA standards . The ELNA 5 have a 1'C axis arrangement. They are designed for light route service and reach a top speed of 50 km / h.
Like all ELNA locomotives, they have a copper fire box. The frame is made of 20 mm thick sheet metal, between which the water tank is suspended. The drive takes place on the third axis. The leading axle was initially designed as an Adam axle , and later on as a Bissel frame on locomotives . The vehicles have piston valves and an external Heusinger control .
Since the wishes of the customer were taken into account, the locomotives differed in individual parts.
Most of the machines taken over by the DR in 1949 were included in the numbering scheme as the 91.64 series.

Two ELNA 5 locomotives originally delivered by Henschel & Sohn to the Teutoburger Wald-Eisenbahn have been kept operational to this day: Henschel No. 20818 (ex TWE No. 152, built in 1927) as MBS No. 5 "Elna" at the Dutch Museum Buurtspoorweg between Haaksbergen and Boekelo, Henschel No. 24917 (ex TWE No. 154, built in 1940) as CFV3V No. 158 on the Belgian museum railway Chemin de fer à vapeur des 3 vallées between Mariembourg and Treignes.
