The BMW Magazin was an automobile magazine published by BMW . From 1989 to 2018 it was published worldwide in 23 language versions and 33 national editions in around 90 countries with a total circulation of around 3.8 million copies.

founding

BMW Magazin was founded and developed in 1989 in collaboration with Munich journalist Peter Groschupf, who was editor-in-chief for six years. It was produced from 1991 to 1997 by the publisher Ringier Germany , followed by Hoffmann und Campe X . At that time, it was published quarterly in Germany and most European countries. In order to avoid the costs of transporting the printed paper, printing was carried out at up to three locations worldwide: in Germany, the USA and Asia. The editorial process was organized by Karin Michaelis in the role of CvD and the technical process by Alfred Führholzer, manufacturer at Ringier Germany.

In 2010, BMW reduced the frequency of publication of the printed magazine from quarterly to half-yearly, in return introduced a microsite and an app. These digital media complement and update the magazine. Print and online media have been produced by Hoffmann and Campe X, a subsidiary of the Hamburg publishing house Hoffmann und Campe , since 2001 . The editorial office is located in Munich in the house of the Hoffmann and Campe subsidiary Gräfe & Unzer .

Others

The state expenditures differ considerably in some cases. For example, not too much skin should be shown in the spending on Islamic countries. For the national edition of Saudi Arabia, all pictures showing a woman at the wheel have to be swapped. Even if these are extremes, the state editions are tailored to the respective country and each contain a national section.

Goals and other media

With BMW Magazin, BMW tries to maintain contact with new car buyers and to influence the decision in favor of BMW when buying a new car in the future.
