Educational work, equipment and offers
The Gymnasium Schillerstraße has 36 classes between the 5th and 13th grade with 748 students (as of 2017/18). Since the 2018/19 school year, it has been offering all-day care for the lower grades .
In 2011 the school was nominated for the Austrian School Prize. In 2017, the grammar school reached third place in the Austria-wide Starke Schule Award in the categories “Science Prize” and “Jury Prize”.
Realgymnasium
Since the 2001/02 school year, the school has offered a secondary school with a focus on languages and IT / communication.
The first focus of the Realgymnasium is the teaching of living foreign languages. In the 1st grade, students start with English, from the 3rd grade onwards, French is also compulsory. From the 5th grade onwards, students choose between Latin and Spanish as their third foreign language.
The compulsory elective offer from the 6th grade onwards offers the option of choosing Italian, Spanish or Russian to a lesser extent. Pupils who did not choose Latin as a compulsory subject in the 5th grade can also take the small Latinum as part of an elective subject, which is a prerequisite for studying law, medicine or languages in Austria, for example.
A second focus is computer science. This subject is taught in grades 1 and 5 for two hours per week and familiarizes the students with the basic concepts of computer science. You will also learn the ten-finger system, how to use word processing and learning platforms, and how to use the computer as an aid for research work and presentations.
From the 6th grade onwards, computer science is offered as a compulsory elective for those who are particularly interested in computers, and there is the possibility of gaining programming knowledge for CAD as well as the European computer driving license via optional subjects .
Upper secondary high school musically
The musical branch offers lessons for piano, violin, guitar, clarinet / saxophone, trumpet / trombone, recorder, flute, drums and singing for beginners and advanced learners. The instrumental and singing lessons are supplemented by weekly work in the ensemble, which takes place across classes. Furthermore, art education is taught from the 5th and 6th grade.
In the elective subject “Cultural Management and Cultural Mediation”, the students learn in two years to design, organize and professionally handle cultural events. There is also the possibility of becoming part of the school band via the elective subject "Band".
Upper secondary school pictorial
The visual branch teaches the pupils in visual design and handicraft education. Since the 2013/14 school year, an additional weekly lesson with a focus on viewing art deepens the reflection on the various possibilities of viewing the work.
In the elective subject “Cultural Management and Cultural Mediation”, the students learn in two years to design, organize and professionally handle cultural events. In the 7th and 8th grade there is also the possibility of taking the elective subject “From drawing to picture”.
Upper level Realgymnasium natural science
Here the focus is on the natural science subjects in the upper level. Practical exercises are increasingly being carried out in biology, chemistry and physics. Computer science is taught every four years and teaching in the other subjects increasingly includes computer work.
Music high school
The music grammar school Schillerstraße is the third oldest in Austria and part of the grammar school Schillerstraße. Pupils who have already achieved a high level of ability on their instruments can attend the grammar school from the 9th to the 13th grade and complete with a Matura. The prerequisite for this is an entrance examination at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory , which takes on further musical training.
Diverse musical projects, joint choir lessons and an annual musical production create connections across class boundaries, especially in this branch of the school.
