The Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium Gastein ( BORG Gastein ) is a federal upper level realgymnasium in Bad Hofgastein . It was founded in 1973 by the Gasteinertal School Association. With its musical and creative focus on MultiMediaArt, it is one of the most important musical training places in the Salzburg region. The BORG Gastein lasts four years and ends with the central school-leaving exam. As usual in an upper secondary school , entry takes place in the 5th grade (9th grade).

history

The Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium Gastein was founded in 1973 by the Gasteinertal School Association with significant participation by Director Wolfgang Reith, Albert Rubatsch, Otto Zaglmayr and the local mayors.

From September 1973 to 1976 she was housed in the main school building in Bad Gastein and moved to Bad Hofgastein in 1976 after the main school extension was completed. In 1977 the new school building could be opened.

The expansion and new building of the school was completed in January 2009.

Directors

  • 1973–1996: Norbert Unterkofler
  • 1996–2008: Gottfried Plohovich (junior)
  • 2008–2011: Erwin Hettegger
  • since 2011: Markus Miller-Aichholz

Focus on music and creativity

This unique focus is the main component of this school. The BORG Gastein was supposed to be mainly a school for the young people of the Gastein Valley, but after the dissolution of the natural science branch (which was replaced by the compulsory elective Nawi +) the number of students from all over the Salzburg region as well as from Germany and other federal states of Austria increased . The number of these students is currently around half.

Major (compulsory subject)

Each student has to choose a major when registering and has to attend this every four years with two hours per week. After completing the 8th grade, the student is free to take oral exams in this main subject as well.

The main subjects

  • Vocal
  • dance
  • guitar
  • Electric guitar
  • Electric bass
  • piano
  • Drums
  • Trumpet (and other brass instruments)

An aptitude test must be taken for the subjects dance and vocal, in which only general aptitude for the subject is checked.

Optional subject

Each major can also be chosen as an optional subject. You have to register for this annually. If you attend this optional subject every four years, it is also an oral exam.

Ensemble lessons

In the second semesters of the 7th and 8th grades, instead of the main subject, you have to attend ensemble lessons in connection with your instrument (i.e. your chosen major). In these ensemble lessons, you will learn how to play several different instruments together. A joint examination must also be taken in this subject.

Exam (foreplay / audition / audition)

Once a semester, a graded audition / audition / audition must be taken. In this, a prepared piece that has been tried out in class with the teacher is performed. The grade received affects the final grade. Several such songs must also be prepared in the course of ensemble lessons. The grade that the whole ensemble receives affects the final grade of the individual student.

Elective courses

From the 6th grade onwards, each student has to choose an elective subject. This is mandatory to attend two hours per week. It is also possible to choose a second (in rare cases a third) elective subject as an optional subject.
