BR 50

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

BR 50 (abbreviation for bass reflex loudspeaker with a nominal load capacity of 50 watts ) is the name of a loudspeaker box that has been produced in the GDR since 1987 by radio and telecommunications companies . The loudspeaker is considered to be the best loudspeaker built in the GDR and is still a popular classic today. The box was designed by VEB Musikelectronic Geithain .

History and structure

The loudspeaker was first presented to the public at the Leipzig spring fair in 1987. The BR 50 was conceived on the basis of the more compact BR 25 and designed as a 3-way bass reflex box, with some structural features being adopted. The arrangement consists (from top to bottom) of a tweeter dome and the bass reflex tube, a mid-range and two bass diaphragms.

The combination of a soft membrane suspension and several small chassis made it possible to achieve good efficiency. The loudspeaker is characterized by a very linear reproduction that can keep up with high-quality, expensive modern studio monitors.
