The music Geithain GmbH is a German loudspeaker manufacturer based in Saxony Geithain .

history

The company was founded on May 5, 1960 by the then 18 year old Joachim Kiesler, together with two watchmakers, as PGH Fernsehen, Rundfunk, Uhren and was initially intended to repair radio and television sets . In the course of time the focus of the company shifted more and more towards the development and production of own devices in the field of sound engineering . In 1972 the cooperative was expropriated and converted into VEB Musikelectronic Geithain (MEG), which was still managed by Joachim Kiesler, in the role of technical director.

During this time, active director speakers were mainly developed and built for radio and television in the GDR , which were also used in almost all recording studios and concert halls in the GDR . The very successful BR 25 loudspeaker box was developed there for private users and was soon manufactured by Statron Fürstenwalde in large numbers. B. exported to the Federal Republic. Further developments for the home market were the BR50, BR2725 and BR3735 loudspeaker boxes, all of which were manufactured by Statron. Microphone amplifiers and PA amplifiers (e.g. V921, V900) were developed for the studio market from 1967 . VEB Musikelectronic Geithain also manufactured electronic organs for churches and concert halls, e.g. B. the Palace of the Republic , several of which still exist today and are still maintained by the company.

In 1984 the VEB developed the first large director's loudspeaker RL 900, an active 3-way bass reflex monitor weighing 50 kg. When the ARD announced a worldwide competition in April 1989 to test a new generation of director speakers, Frank Müller-Römer , the then technical director of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation, advocated that the RL 900 from the former GDR company also be included in the test becomes. The loudspeaker received the highest number of points of all devices presented in several evaluation areas, so that orders from numerous broadcasters were immediately received. So the company got off to a good start in the period after the reunification. In 1992 Joachim Kiesler succeeded in retransferring and the Musikelectronic Geithain GmbH was founded. For the extensive measurements during the development of a new loudspeaker, the company has one of the largest anechoic rooms in Germany. As the only manufacturer of director's loudspeakers, Musikelectronic Geithain specifies which models are suitable for which listening distances. The RL 944 K can be used at a listening distance of one meter, while the RL 801 K is designed for a minimum listening distance of three meters.

The company's current products are intended, on the one hand, for use in control rooms, but on the other hand, they are also aimed at particularly quality-conscious private music lovers. As before, parts of the production are carried out in Saxony, the loudspeaker housings are manufactured by a joinery near Dresden and the entire electronic assemblies are developed directly in Geithain. The complete assembly of the boxes also takes place in Geithain. Trademarks are coaxial loudspeaker systems in which the woofers, midrange and tweeters are nested in one another. In addition to the active director speakers and passive home speakers, speakers for general sound reinforcement purposes and for installation in cinemas are also manufactured. In recent times, existing loudspeaker models have been further developed, which now have a more directed radiation in the bass range. These variants are especially suitable for smaller control rooms and broadcast vehicles, as they stimulate the room modes less strongly in the area behind the loudspeakers .

The British BBC and Japanese television NHK have also started sourcing Geithain speakers. The control rooms in almost all German music and film schools as well as numerous concert and opera houses are equipped with these products.
