Babbar Khalsa is the name of one of the numerous Sikh militant organizations that were active during the 1970s and 1980s. It was supported primarily by exiled and Indian Sikh groups who are striving for an independent Sikh state called Khalistan (Land of the Pure) in the Indian and Pakistani Punjab .

Babbar Khalsa was founded in India in 1978 by a former successor Jarnail Singh Bhindranwales named Sukhdev Singh Dasuwal . The Babbar Khalsa established branches in numerous countries, especially Canada and Great Britain . For actions outside of India, they appear as Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Babbar Khalsa in Canada was founded in 1981 by Talwinder Singh Parmar . Members of the Khalsa participated in the forcible storming of the Golden Temple of Amritsar .

In 1991, Babbar Khalsa, who was active in Canada under Talwinder Singh Parmar, split off from the BKI and formed the Azad Babbar Khalsa (independent Babbar Khalsa). Parmar was later killed during a gun battle with Indian police on October 27, 2000.
