Babinské louky

As a natural monument Babinské louky (German Babinaer Orchideenwiesen ) various mountain meadows in the right-Elbe Bohemian Central Mountains southwest of the extinct village Babiny I ( Babina A ) were placed under nature protection.

history

In 1904 the Prague botanist Karel Domin pointed out the progressive destruction of the Babina orchid meadows with their variety of orchid plants by agriculture.

The area natural monument was designated in 1993 on an area of 40.9 hectares. Several remaining areas of moist mountain meadows, as they were once characteristic of the higher elevations of the Bohemian Central Uplands, were placed under protection. Typical of the protected area are the large populations of the bell jar ( Adenophora liliifolia ), a critically endangered species in the Czech Republic.
