Babor is a German cosmetics company that specializes in natural and luxury cosmetics . The parent company including development, production and warehouse are located in the Eilendorf district of Aachen .

History of the company

The company was founded by chemist Michael Babor . In 1955, Babor patented the active ingredient HY-ÖL, a water-oil emulsion which is advertised as a water- friendly oil and which formed the basis of Babor's "hydrophilic natural cosmetics" BIOGEN. A year later he founded a cosmetics company in Cologne under the name Dr. Babor GmbH .

In 1962 the Vossen family from Aachen acquired 90% of the Babor shares. In 1966 the Babor logo with the black rose with white flowers penetrating through the O of the Babor lettering was registered as a trademark . In 1977 the company moved its headquarters to the Aachen district of Eilendorf. The US counterpart Babor Cosmetics was founded in 1982, followed by a subsidiary in Belgium in 1987. Further foreign foundations took place in Austria, Canada, Asia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece and Great Britain in the 1990s. In 1988 the company founded an employee participation company.

In 2013, the production area at BABOR in Aachen was tripled by expanding the headquarters. The costs for building additional office space and more space in production were around five million euros.

Products

Babor produces skin care products. The product range includes products for face care, body care, hand and foot care, organic skin care, cosmeceuticals , men's care, sun care as well as decorative cosmetic products and fragrances. Babor also uses regional raw materials for the production of its creams, lotions and ampoules. For example, on thermal water from Aachen and essences from volcanic rock from the nearby Eifel. The Aacheners have been running their own plantation there for growing service berries since 2012 .

Sales structure

The products are sold exclusively through cooperating BABOR cosmetic institutes as well as in wellness hotels and SPAs. The direct purchase of the products is only possible there on site or in the BABOR online shop.

With the private label subsidiary Femia , the company also supplies private label products to druggists and discounters, for example for Balea at dm-drogerie markt .

BABOR is represented by distributors in more than 60 countries worldwide and has subsidiaries in Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Great Britain, Canada and the USA.
