Backhaus Alfstrasse 32

Alfstrasse 32 (right)

The historic old bakery at Alfstraße 32 in Lübeck's old town is a brick Renaissance gabled house .

It is located at the lower end of Alfstrasse as a corner house on Straight Querstrasse , which is spanned by wooden candle arches to the opposite corner house of the historical factory from 1775. The house was used as a bakery from 1303 to 1890 . The corner location is typical for bakeries in Lübeck. It has been prescribed by the city's fire prevention regulations since the Middle Ages so that, in case of doubt, it could be extinguished from two sides. The stepped gable from the Renaissance period (around 1600) is bricked with chamfered brick on the niches and hatches, as is the round brick portal. The house was renovated in 1966 and has been a listed building since 1967. During the renovation, the winch wheel was restored on the eaves side in the straight cross street, with which supplies could previously be heaved onto the storage floors. The house has been used for catering since the renovation.
