Badea Cârțan (about Uncle Cârțan ) with real name Gheorghe Cârțan (born January 24, 1849 in Cârțișoara , Transylvania ; † August 7, 1911 in Sinaia ) was a Romanian shepherd .

Live and act

Cârțan, born in Oprea Cârțișoara ( Kleinkerz ) - a district of Cârțișoara - went to Rome for the first time on foot in 1894 to see the representations of the Dacians on the Trajan Column for himself. After that he was in Rome two more times. Cârțan fought for the independence of the Romanians in Transylvania and smuggled innumerable Romanian books over the Făgăraş Mountains from Wallachia .

In the Badea Cârțan village museum in the Cârțișoara municipality, you can see several of Cârțan's legacies.
