Cârțișoara or Cîrțișoara [ kɨrtsiˈʃoara ] is a municipality in Sibiu County in Transylvania , Romania .
location
The place Cârțișoara is located near the Făgăraș Mountains on the so-called Transfogarascher Hochstrasse . The place can be reached via the European route 68 , a junction between Sibiu - Făgăraș ( Fogarasch ) leads to the place after four kilometers. The nearest larger city Victoria ( Viktoriastadt ) is 20 kilometers to the east; the district capital Sibiu ( Hermannstadt ) located 52 kilometers west of Cârțișoara. The Făgăraş Nature Park , the Bâlea Nature Reserve and the Arpăşel Nature Reserve are in the immediate vicinity.
history
Cârțișoara was created in 1964 by merging the villages of Oprea Cârțișoara ( small candle ) and Streza Cârțișoara ( upper candle ). Both places were owned by the Kerzer Cistercian monastery in the distant past . The first documentary mention of Kleinkerz was in 1473; that of Oberkerz 1534.

Attractions
- The Orthodox Church of the Annunciation was built between 1818 and 1821. The fresco painting from 1824 comes from the Grecu brothers from Săsăuș ( Sachsenhausen ).
- The Orthodox St. Nicholas Church was built in 1806, the interior painting from 1809 was also done by the family of painters Nicolae Grecu from Săsăuș.
- The Badea Gheorghe Cârțan village museum with a valuable exhibition of reverse glass icons.
- The Villa Paltinul on Lake Bâlea . It is Nicolae Ceaușescu's former hunting lodge with various hunting trophies.
