The village of Șura Mică is located eight kilometers northwest of the district capital Sibiu ( Hermannstadt ). The place is located on a county road that leads via the health resort Ocna Sibiului ( Salzburg ) to Păuca ( Törnen ).
history
Archaeological finds indicate that the area around Șura Mică was already populated from at least the 4th century.
In 1323 the place was first mentioned as Parvum Horeum . The settlement founded by the Transylvanian Saxons has been repeatedly devastated or damaged by wars and disasters over the centuries. For example by Turkish invasions (1432, 1437/38 and 1493), looting by the troops of Mihai Viteazul ( Michael the Brave ) in 1600 and the Kuruzen (1706) as well as by a major fire in 1733 and also by the earthquake of 1977 which caused damage to the evangelical church.
In 1780 the first Romanian wooden church was built. From the second half of the 19th century, the German-speaking and Romanian populations were roughly equal. It was not until the emigration to Romania after the political change in 1989 that the proportion of Transylvanian Saxons in the village fell rapidly.
Education, economy and social
As early as 1715 there is evidence that a school was built in Kleinschubb.
In the originally agricultural place, the company "Transilvania Pack and Print SA" has been the most important investor and employer since the late 1990s.
traffic
The community is located on the DJ 106B county road, about one and a half kilometers north of the Romanian A1 and on the CFR railway line 208 . The international Sibiu Airport in Turnișor ( Neppendorf ) is about seven kilometers away.
