Laslea ( German  Großlasseln , Hungarian Szászszentlászló ) is a municipality in the Sibiu district in Romania .

Geographical location

The municipality of Laslea is located approximately in the middle of Transylvania in the Kokel highlands ( Podișul Târnavelor ). The place Laslea is located on the stream of the same name - a left tributary of the Târnava Mare ( Great Kokel ) - and on the county road ( drum județean ) DJ 143A, about one and a half kilometers south of the national road DN 14 between Mediaș ( Mediasch ) and Sighișoara ( Schäßburg ). The nearest small town Sighișoara is about 10 km northeast; the district capital Sibiu about 80 kilometers southwest of Laslea away.

The nearest train stop, called Luna , is about four kilometers away on the Teiuş – Braşov railway line .

history

Laslea was first mentioned in a document in 1309 as Sanctus Ladislaus , but it was probably founded around 1200. It originally belonged to the Kolozsmonostor monastery (in the area of today's Cluj-Napoca ) before it was assigned to the royal soil in the 14th century and thus became a free community of the Transylvanian Saxons in the Schäßburg chair .

population

For several centuries Großlasseln was shaped by the Transylvanian Saxons. Until the end of the Second World War, the Romanian Germans made up the absolute majority of the village population until the revolution of 1989 . After that, most of the Romanian Germans emigrated. Due to the influx of Romanians , and especially Roma , the total number of inhabitants remained relatively stable.

In the entire municipality of Laslea in 2002, of the 3203 inhabitants at that time, 2,081 identified themselves as Romanians, 765 as Roma, 312 as Germans, 43 as Hungarians or Tschangos , one as Russian or Lipovan and one as Ukrainian . In the village of Laslea itself, a total of 1456 people lived in 2002, of which 1016 Romanians, 385 Roma, 34 Germans (2%), 19 Hungarians and two of other nationalities.

Attractions

The bell tower of the otherwise demolished church has been preserved because the tower of the new church, built in the mid-19th century, collapsed before it was completed.

particularities

The Spitalul Lukas ( Lukas Spital ) has existed in Laslea since 1992 and consists of a retirement home and a surgical ambulance. It is used by several - mostly church - organizations in Germany, e.g. B. co-financed by the “Aid Association for the Lukas Hospital in Laslea, Romania eV” in Neuendettelsau .
