Valea Viilor ( German wormhole , Hungarian Nagybaromlak ) is a municipality in the Sibiu district in Transylvania , Romania .
The place is also known under the earlier Romanian names Vorumloc or Vurmloc and the Hungarian Baromlaka .
Geographical location
Valea Viilor is located in the northern part of Sibiu County. On the Vorumloc river - a tributary of the Târnava Mare ( Great Kokel ) - the municipality is located in the hilly landscape of the Kokel valley . On the county road ( Drum județean ) DJ 142G the place is 6 kilometers south of the small town of Copşa Mică ; the district capital Sibiu is located approx. 50 kilometers south of Valea Viilor.
history
Valea Viilor, originally Vorumloc , was first mentioned (according to various sources) under the Hungarian name Baromlak in 1224 or 1305, when the Hungarian Count Apafi bequeathed the village to his son Gregor. The Transylvanian-Saxon Hörigendorf , initially owned by the nobility , was later able to join the Mediasch chair and thus become free. Until 1964, the place in Romania was led under the German-derived name Vorumloc , then renamed "Valea Viilor" (German meaning: valley of the vineyards).

While in the area of the municipality since the census from 1850 to 1941 about twice as many Germans as Romanians lived, lived in the village of Valea Viilor themselves until about 1941, about equal parts Transylvanian Saxons and Romanians. Since the mass emigration of the Transylvanian Saxons in 1992, Romanians have almost always lived here.
