Râu Sadului or Rîu Sadului [ ˈrɨu ˈsadului ] ( German Kalibaschen , Hungarian Riuszád ) is a municipality in the Sibiu district , in Transylvania , Romania .
Geographical location
Râu Sadului is located in southwest Transylvania on the upper reaches of the Sadu - a right tributary of the Cibin ( Zibin ) -, in the Mărginimea Sibiului between the Lotrului - and the Zibins Mountains . On the district road ( Drum județean ) DJ 105G in the south of the Sibiu district, there is a street village about 20 kilometers south of the small town of Cisnădie ( Heltau ), the district capital Sibiu is about 30 kilometers north.
history
The place Râu Sadului was first mentioned in a document in 1726 or 1771, according to various sources.
At the beginning of the 18th century, several shepherd families from Răşinari settled here on the area of today's municipality. The name of the place was given after the stream Sadu (Râu Sadului) flowing here .
The main occupations of the population are livestock (mainly sheep) and forestry.

In 1850, 665 people lived in the area of today's municipality, 21 of them were Roma , the rest were Romanians . The highest population of the place was registered in 1956, as well as that of the Romanians (1763), the Romanian Germans (98) and that of the Hungarians (33). The highest number of Roma (55) was recorded in 1930. The population has decreased significantly since 1956; In 2002, 636 people lived in the community, in 2011 571 people. Furthermore, up to around 1966 some people also confessed to being Ukrainians , the highest number (22) being registered in 1966; In 1956 one of them claimed to be a Slovak .
