Șeica Mare ( German Marktschelken , Hungarian Nagyselyk ) is a village in Transylvania ( Romania ).
location
The place is in the Sibiu district on the national road ( drum național ) DN 14, which leads from Sibiu to Mediaş ( Mediasch ), thirty kilometers north of the district capital Sibiu.
history
Marktschelken is a settlement founded by the Transylvanian Saxons in the Middle Ages . Around 1300 the - today Protestant - church was built. The place was first mentioned in 1309 and was the seat of the Schelker chair (later two chairs based in Mediasch ).
According to 1992 census lived in Mark sealed cloves 4,297 Romanians , 431 Hungarians , 181 Roma and 147 Romania German . In 2011, 3744 Romanians, 250 Magyars, 172 Roma and 41 Romanian Germans were registered, the rest of them gave no information about their ethnicity.
