Jina ( German Schinna or also Sinna , Hungarian Zsinna ) is a municipality in the Sibiu district in Transylvania , Romania .
Geographical location
The municipality of Jina is located in the north of the Zibins Mountains ( Munții Cibin or Munții Cindrel ), southwest of the Transylvanian Basin . In the historic Mühlbacher Stuhl on the Pârâul Negru - a left tributary of the Cibin ( Zibin ) - is the place Jina on about seven hills, in the southeast of the Sibiu district. On the county road ( drum județean ) DJ 106E, the place is about 23 kilometers west of the small town of Sălişte ( Selischte ); the district capital Sibiu ( Hermannstadt ) is located about 45 kilometers east of Jina.
The older church in the center of the village is 908 m (2979 feet ) above sea level , the rest of the village extends over seven hills to an altitude of 1064 m .
history
The place Jina was first mentioned in 1468. At the south-eastern end of the village is a settlement of spoonbill gypsies who are engaged in wood carving. The place is known for the local folk costume and for the annual folklore festival Sus pe muntele din Jina that takes place here in July .
The main occupations of the population are livestock (mainly sheep) and wood processing.

Since 1850 the area of today's municipality had the highest number of inhabitants, at the same time that of the Romanians, in 1977. The highest population of Romanian Germans was registered in 1900, that of Magyars (17) in 1890 and that of Roma (218) in 1890. Furthermore, nine identified themselves as Ukrainians .
Attractions
- The Romanian Orthodox Church Buna Vestire , built in 1795/96, and the house at No. 213 are listed.
- Next to the Buna Vestire church is a wooden chapel, built around 1826. The remains of the former tombs next to the church were reburied here after the current cemetery at Dealul Boii was created.
- The Sf. Mihail și Gavril Church, built from 1937 to 1939, also called the “Catedrala Munților” ( Cathedral of the Mountains ), has two separate entrances - one for men and one for women - and can accommodate around 2000 visitors.
- “Museul Pastoral”, the Morariu family's ethnographic museum ( Shepherd Museum ).
