Background and story

The Grammy Awards (actually Grammophone Awards), which have been presented since 1958, are presented annually in numerous categories by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) in the United States of America for artistic achievement, technical competence and excellent overall performance regardless of the album - Honor sales or chart position. The prize is awarded for high-quality vocal and instrumental albums from the music fields Latin Rock , Latin Hip-Hop and Urban or Latin Alternative .

The category was introduced as the Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock / Alternative Performance in 1998, and the award was given to the Argentine band Los Fabulosos Cadillacs for the album Fabulosos Calavera . In 2009, the category with the Grammy Award for Best Latin Urban Album was merged into the category Best Latin Rock, Alternative or Urban Album in order to reduce the number of Grammy categories. In 2012, the award of the award was suspended and, together with the Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album, it was assigned to the newly formed category Best Latin Pop, Rock or Urban Album . In June 2012, however, it was announced that it will be given again under the slightly changed name Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album from 2013.

The Mexican band Maná has received this award three times so far, making them the artists with the most wins in this category. The American band Ozomatli are the only ones with more than one win with two wins in 2002 and 2005. The Duo Aterciopelados from Colombia have been nominated four times, but never received the award. With the upcoming Grammy Awards in 2015, this will also apply to the Mexican band Molotov , which can still receive it.
