Boița ( Hungarian Bojca , German  Ochsendorf ) is a municipality in the Sibiu district in Transylvania , Romania .

Geographical location

The municipality Boița is located in the historical Altland on the eastern edge of the Mărginimea Sibiului , near the Zibins Mountains . The place Boița is located on Olt (Alt) , four kilometers south of the small town of Tălmaciu (Talmesch) and 22 km south of the district capital Sibiu on the busy European route 81 . The road leads from northwestern Romania via Sibiu and Râmnicu Vâlcea to Bucharest . A motorway to relieve the national road in the old valley (Valea Oltului) is currently being planned.

history

The area around the village was the location of the Roman auxiliary troop camp Caput Stenarum . Boița was first mentioned in a document in 1453. The village was built next to a Red Tower ( Turnu roşu ) defense system , which was built against the Turkish threat at the entrance of the Rotenturm Pass and the remains of which are still preserved today.

Around 1910 the community had around 1,600 inhabitants, with Romanians making up the vast majority, as is the case today .

The Boița community emerged from the small town of Tălmaciu (Talmesch) since 2004 .
