Turnișor ( German Neppendorf , Hungarian Kistorony ) is a village in Transylvania ( Romania ). Administratively it is now an incorporated part of Hermannstadt ( Sibiu ).

history

The settlement was founded in the 13th century by Transylvanian-Saxon immigrants. In the 18th century, the Kurutz Wars and later the plague decimated the inhabitants of the village, so that many houses and farms remained uninhabited.

From 1734 , Protestants (so-called Landler ) from the Salzkammergut and Carinthia , who had been driven from their homeland, were settled in Neppendorf - like Großau and Großpold as well .

Their descendants, some of whom still reside here today, differ from the Transylvanian Saxons living in the surrounding villages of the region in terms of their customs , dialect and costume .
