Hellmut Klima

Hellmut Klima (born February 13, 1915 in Sibiu , Transylvania , † October 7, 1990 in Neppendorf ) was a Romanian-German historian , Protestant pastor and teacher .

After graduating from the Brukenthal Gymnasium in Sibiu, Klima studied theology and history in Klausenburg , Vienna and Leipzig . He then earned his living in the Austrian State Archives . In 1939 the doctorate followed with the dissertation "Die Gubernatoren Siebenbürgens 1774-1867" (published 1943 in Romanian language).

In 1940 he became pastor in the Transylvanian-Saxon - rural community of Neppendorf and from 1969 to 1978 additionally as dean of the Sibiu parish and the spiritual member of the regional consistory of the Evangelical Church of Romania . He remained so until his retirement in 1980. In 1945, however, his activity was interrupted when he was deported to the USSR and had to do forced labor there.

Parts of his written estate were taken over by the library of the Transylvania Institute. Among other things, the Transsylvanica collection and 364 local monographs of all Transylvanian-Saxon village foundations are stored there. The Transylvanian Museum received his coin collection . As a pastor in Neppendorf, he researched the history of the rural people in meticulous detail . However, he was unable to publish the result of this work during the communist era in Romania, but parts of it were later published by Renate Bauinger-Liebhart, a Neppendorfer countrywoman who emigrated to Austria.
