Bagher Khan or Bagher Chan (* 1861 in Tabriz , † October 1916 in Ghaser Schirin ; Persian باقر خان) was one of the military leaders and freedom fighters of the Constitutional Revolution of Iran .

Life

Bagher Khan was born in the Khyaban district of Tabriz in 1861, the son of Haj Reza Banna, a mason. The Khyaban district is one of the oldest districts in Tabriz. Bagher Khan also worked as a bricklayer before the revolution.

After the shelling of the parliament in Tehran in 1908, Bagher Khan took part under the leadership of Sattar Khan in the fight against the troops of Mohammed Ali Shah , who had deposed the constitutional government and dissolved parliament. After the first defeat of the freedom fighters of Tabriz, Bagher Khan initially wanted to give up the fight. However, Sattar Khan, who was able to hold Amir Khiz district against government forces, encouraged him to continue the fight against Mohammed Ali Shah.

Under the leadership of Sattar Khan and Bagher Khan, the constitutional movement continued to gain popularity and the siege of Tabriz by the troops of Mohammed Ali Shah ended. The Constitutional Local Government of Tabriz gave him the title Salar-e-Melli (Greatness of the Nation). The victory of the Tabriz fighters ultimately saved the constitutional movement in Iran from collapse and led to the overthrow of Mohammed Ali Shah.

After the occupation of Tabriz by Russian troops, the freedom fighters and Sattar Khan and Bagher Khan left Tabriz and went to Tehran. There they were solemnly received. Bagher Khan left Tehran in 1916 for Ghasre Shirin on the border with Iraq. There he was attacked, robbed and beheaded by a criminal gang. Bagher Khan is described as brave and honest. Bagher Khan had a son named Sadegh Khan.
