Roundhouse in the Marburg depot

The Marburg depot was located approx. 250 m south of the Marburg train station . In the end it was a branch of the Gießen depot and was shut down in 1989. Several hundred employees worked here. The Bw Marburg consisted of a roundhouse , a hub , a wagon hall and administrative buildings.

history

Locomotives for the Obere Lahntalbahn and the Lumdatalbahn were stationed in the Marburg depot . However, locomotives from the Dillenburg depot were used on the nearby Schelden Valley Railway and the Aar-Salzböde Railway . This was because the Marburg depot initially belonged to the Kassel Federal Railroad Directorate for a long time and only moved to the Frankfurt am Main Federal Railroad Directorate at the turn of the year 1974/1975 .

There were 16 parking spaces in the locomotive shed where locomotives could be repaired. There were also two stands where locomotives could be washed. The systems that were needed exclusively for steam locomotives disappeared with the steam locomotives in the 1950s.

The first rail buses came to Marburg in 1952, followed by the first V65 diesel locomotives in 1956 . In 1962 these diesel locomotives were replaced by type V100 locomotives; these were officially relocated to Kassel in 1968, although they were still in the Marburg region. This was the first time that the Marburg depot gave up part of its competencies.

In 1983 the Marburg depot lost its independence and became a branch of the Gießen depot , handing over all vehicles to Gießen. The Marburg branch was closed in 1989.

At this locomotive treatment system, one could work on a locomotive or wash it.

Status

The roundhouse is increasingly falling into disrepair and is in great danger of collapsing. It is surrounded by mobile site fences. The turntable is overgrown with birch trees, but can still be partially rotated with a crank. A cultural center was built in the former wagon hall in 1996 . The non-commercial local radio station Radio Unerhört Marburg was looking for a home in 1997 and moved into the former administration building. A climbing hall has been created in the last large hall on the site.

On January 1, 2012, the property was sold by the real estate project developer Aurelis Real Estate GmbH & Co. KG to the municipal non-profit housing association.
