The Großpostwitz Station , Upper Sorbian Dwórnišćo Budestecy , is a railway - operating agency at the Bautzen-Bad Schandau railway and at the former branching here route to Löbau . The station is located west of the center of the Saxon town of Großpostwitz .
history
Großpostwitz station has existed since the opening of the Bautzen – Bad Schandau railway on November 10, 1877. The reception building corresponds to other similar structures that were built on the South Lusatian Railway . The station system with five parallel tracks is similar to that in Schirgiswalde .
With the construction of the Großpostwitz – Cunewalde line in 1889/90, a locomotive shed for the locomotives of the secondary line was built on the north side . The branch itself was set up on the open route due to a lack of space outside the station ( Abzw Großpostwitz).
Since around 1890 there has been a connecting line to a steam brick in the station area, which was last used by GHG household goods.
Since the closure of the Großpostwitz – Löbau line on August 15, 1998 and the Bautzen – Bad Schandau line on June 16, 2007, there is no longer any train traffic in Großpostwitz.
The reception building, built in 1877, was used until 2004, and has been owned by the municipality since 2011. It is a cultural monument according to the law for the protection and maintenance of cultural monuments in the Free State of Saxony .
In May 2018, Stellwerk 2 burned down as a result of arson.
