The Hennigsdorf North Station was an interchange between the regional transport and to 1983 and a remaining island traffic of the S-Bahn in Brandenburg . The station has not been served since May 30, 1998, and since then all trains have only served at Hennigsdorf station .

location

The station, which was mainly used for transfer traffic, was located at the intersection of the Berlin outer ring with the Kremmener Bahn , north of the city of Hennigsdorf, already in the area of the city of Velten . The upper platform on the outer ring had two outer platforms , the lower one only one outer platform. To the east and west of the station there is a single-track connection from the outer ring to Hennigsdorf.

history

The first trains stopped here at the outer ring platform on April 30, 1953. Initially, the option to change trains was not even available. However, this was made possible on August 18, 1958 with the construction of the lower platform. While the regional trains ran from Falkenhagen to Berlin above , the S-Bahn from Rangsdorf to Velten initially stopped at the lower platform . Even after the Wall was built in 1961, not much changed in the situation, only that from now on the S-Bahn trains commuted as an island line between Hennigsdorf and Velten.

The station quickly developed into a kind of main train station in Hennigsdorf, as one could travel in almost all directions from here. Since most of the traffic ran on the outer ring, the regular S-Bahn timetable was abandoned and a connecting timetable was set up. The trains now ran in such a way that there was as short a transfer time as possible between the outer ring trains and those of the S-Bahn.

In 1983 the electric island line was finally discontinued. In its place, the line between Hennigsdorf and Velten was electrified with an overhead line, from now on regional trains also stopped at the lower platform.

The turning point and the time after that should mean the quick end. The outer ring lost its importance as a bypass route, since the direct and thus shorter route through West Berlin was given again. The traffic was gradually thinned out, most trains now did not run as Sputnik , but took the route to Oranienburg . There was still no direct connection to the city center, so you had to switch to the outer ring.

The focus of traffic quickly shifted back to the Hennigsdorf train station in the city center, which has been connected to the S-Bahn from Berlin since 1998. In contrast, an extension from Hennigsdorf via Hennigsdorf Nord to Velten is still uncertain.

After the passenger train stops on the upper platforms were no longer available on May 28, 1995, those on the lower platform followed on May 30, 1998.
