Railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia |
The Hoffnungsthal station is located on the Rotdornallee in central Hoffnungsthal . Today it only serves the Cologne-Kalk-Overath railway line , which is also connected to the Oberbergische Bahn line . Until 1966, the Cologne-Mülheim-Lindlar railway branched off in Hoffnungsthal .
history
The first train station in Hopesthal was about a kilometer north of today's train station, also on Rotdornallee:
Northern train station
On July 2, 1888, a committee of 28 members, including the August Reusch company from Hopesthal, advocated further expanding the Cologne-Mülheim-Bensberg railway . Thereupon one began with the construction of the station Hoffnungsthal. As a result, the section from Bensberg via Forsbach and Rösrath to Hoffnungsthal was opened in 1890 . The station had a station building corresponding to station class IV as well as a goods shed and a toilet . Two sidings were available for loading goods and general cargo . After the construction of the new station, the northern station was closed. The station building was demolished in 1935. Today the day care center "Purzelbaum."
Southern train station
The construction of the Hope Valley Tunnel between Hope Valley and Honrath in 1910 enabled a direct connection to the existing railway line from Siegburg to Olpe . In the same year the new line was opened as the Kalk – Overath railway line. The junction was south of the previous station. That is why a new train station was built south of the junction for both lines . It consisted of a double-gabled reception building with a train station restaurant and toilet facility, as well as an outbuilding for freight traffic . Around the station building there were ten tracks for both lines.
After the Cologne-Mülheim-Lindlar railway line was closed in 1966, the associated track systems were completely removed. The station buildings still standing today were sold. The station system was completely rebuilt. The station exists to this day. He only has one through track and one crossing track , the platform is between the two tracks.
