Theodor Rutt

Theodor Rutt (born May 5, 1911 in Cologne ; † March 7, 2006 ) was a German pedagogue , Germanist , linguist and university professor who, in addition to numerous specialist books on German teaching , linguistics and the German language, also wrote books on local history .

Life

After graduating from high school , Rutt studied German at the University of Cologne and the Pedagogical Academy in Bonn , graduating with the state exams in 1933 and 1936 . He then worked as a teacher at elementary schools operate and concluded in 1939 his doctorate Dr. phil. with a dissertation on the subject of self-education and self-education in life and in the works of Adalbert Stifter . He finished another postgraduate course in philology in 1942 with the assessor exam.

After the Second World War, Rutt was a lecturer at the Pedagogical Academy in Cologne, where he took over a professorship for didactics of the German language in 1951 . At the same time he was rector of the Pedagogical Academy in Cologne between 1954 and 1962 .

Through his numerous specialist and teaching books, he shaped German teaching in primary and elementary schools in particular and was among other things the author of your mother tongue between 1962 and 1970 : Arbeitsbuch für die Deutschuntersprache , a series of books for German lessons from the second to the ninth school year, which in several New editions appeared.

In his numerous publications he also dealt with topics such as education, teaching and youth care, but also with the local history of the Oberbergisches Land and the Rhein-Sieg district . After the Pedagogical Academy was renamed the Cologne University of Education in 1962, he remained active there and became Vice Rector in 1964 . In 1965 he took over a professorship at the newly founded Pedagogical University of Rhineland and taught at its Cologne department until his retirement on October 1, 1979. In addition, he was President of the Pedagogical University Senate of North Rhine-Westphalia for several years . He was also a member of the Society for Jenaplan Pedagogy in Germany, which deals with the Jena Plan , a school development concept developed by Peter Petersen in 1927 .
