The jonava railway station is a railway station in the city of Jonava in Kaunas in Lithuania . It is located on the Kaišiadorys – Liepāja railway line and is the starting point of a branch line to Kaunas. Thus, it is a junction on the railway connection from the Latvian Liepāja ( Libau ) to the Lithuanian capital Vilnius ( Wilna ) and to Kaunas. The station is operated by the Lithuanian railway company Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai .
history
The station building was built in 1871 by the Libau-Romny-Bahn . At that time there were direct connections to Saint Petersburg and Liepāja . During the Soviet era there were trains to Lvov ( Lemberg ) in what is now Ukraine .
