The Cologne-Lövenich train station is a former passenger station on the Cologne-Aachen railway line in the Lövenich district of Cologne .

As part of the expansion into a high-speed line , the station was dismantled into a purely overtaking station with a private siding. The platforms were demolished and the Lövenich stop was rebuilt a little to the west .

history

Between 1839 and 1841, built Rhenish Railway Company their original route from the station Cologne On Thürmchen the station Aachen Rhine , on 2 July 1840, the line for passenger opened up Lövenich.

The first station building was erected twenty years later, and in 1872 it was renewed. At the end of Odemshofallee, a cul-de-sac on the north side of the railway facilities, there was a simple low-rise building from the 1950s with level access to the northern platform.

Todays situation

At the end of the 1990s, work began on expanding the line for high-speed traffic on the one hand and S-Bahn traffic on the other. Lövenich station was closed, its station building and platforms were dismantled. They were replaced by the high-speed train tracks, including a passing track further east on the south side and an industrial siding on the north side of the main line.

Due to the location of the passing track, it is mainly used for train overtaking in the direction of Cologne; the siding is served by the freight station Cologne-Ehrenfeld to the east.

The southern tracks were converted into the Cologne – Düren S-Bahn line and, as part of this, all stations were made suitable for the S-Bahn. Today's Lövenich stop is more conveniently located than the old train station; its platform is on the bridge over Brauweilerstraße (Landstraße 213), while the former platforms were east of the street.
