Kuala Lumpur Sentral is the largest train station in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur .

The station is also known as KL Sentral in Malaysia . Trains from different systems depart in different directions. The official name of the station is Stesen Sentral , but it is hardly known by this term.

The multi-storey building complex was opened on April 16, 2001 to replace the old Kuala Lumpur main train station , which dates back to the colonial days. The old station continues to serve as a stop for local trains.

The large-scale KL Sentral project , on an area of more than 290,000 m² of an old track apron , includes hotels, office buildings and shopping centers in addition to the station building.

The project is led by a joint consortium led by Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) , Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) , the Malaysian railway company and Pembinaan Redzai Sdn Bhd .

The station building complex

Almost every level in the station complex has a different function.

The lowest level is approached by buses and also serves as a train depot and depot for Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) , which is not visible to passengers .

The KTM Komuter trains, the KLIA Ekspres and the KLIA Transit enter and leave the second level . The KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit are high-speed lines that serve Kuala Lumpurs International Airport .

The platforms for long-distance transport of the KTM are located on the third level. Trains run from there to Singapore and other Malaysian cities on the west coast.

The fourth level serves as a distribution level. There are shops and many restaurants there.

From the fourth level, passengers get to the stop of the driverless, automatic light rail (mixture of underground and elevated train), the so-called Kelana Jaya Line (formerly Putra Line LRT).

About 180 meters from the station is a terminus of the monorail KL Monorail .
