The Lauchhammer Ost train station (formerly: Lauchhammer ) is located in the immediate vicinity of the road from Lauchhammer-Ost (formerly: Bockwitz-Naundorf) to Schwarzheide-West (formerly: Zschornegosda) in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district in the south of Brandenburg .

history

The station was put into operation in 1875 with the opening of the branch line from Ruhland to the Lauchhammer ironworks by the Upper Lusatian Railway Company . The Zschipkau-Finsterwalder Eisenbahn (ZFE) had been operating a small railway line north of Lauchhammer since 1887 , from which a number of sidings branched off. An eight-kilometer-long track that was already in operation on April 1, 1896 between Sallgast and Costebrau-Friedrichsthal (today: Kostebrau ) was extended by a further four kilometers on December 16, 1897 with the commissioning of the Lauchhammerwerke works railway , and thus the plant and the line connected to the ZFE. The ZFE also wanted to connect the Lauchhammer station, but the status of the line had to be changed because part of the line was already on Saxon territory and the Prussian Small Railroad Act did not apply. The company then decided to convert it to a branch line. In June 1901 she received the permit to build the 5.1 kilometer stretch from Costebrau-Friedrichsthal to Lauchhammer, which went into operation on September 1, 1902.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the station was served by three pairs of trains between Sallgast and Lauchhammer and the Lauchhammer factory via Lauchhammer to Ruhland. In the 1930s, the volume between Ruhland and the Lauchhammerwerk increased to up to eight pairs of trains on working days.

The advance of the Kleinleipisch, Klettwitz and Klettwitz-Nord opencast mines affected the routes in the Lauchhammer area. In 1940/41 the line to Kostebrau was relocated due to the approaching opencast mine. The Lauchhammer Nord stop was built near the Lauchhammerwerk outside the factory and was served by continuous trains from Ruhland via Lauchhammer to Kostebrau and Sallgast. While the route in the direction of Kostebrau originally left Lauchhammer station in an easterly direction and branched off from the route to Ruhland, the laid route threaded north, i.e. it branched off from the track to the Lauchhammerwerk.

After the Second World War, traffic between Kostebrau and Sallgast was stopped.

In 1950 the large municipality of Lauchhammer was created from a number of villages, and in 1953 it received city rights. Lauchhammer station has been called Lauchhammer Ost since then . After the Second World War, passenger traffic to the Lauchhammerwerk was discontinued. Lauchhammer Ost station was served by four pairs of trains between Kostebrau and Ruhland via Lauchhammer Nord and Ost in 1950, with one or two trains between Lauchhammer Ost and Ruhland added on weekdays, depending on the direction.

In 1960 passenger traffic between Lauchhammer Ost and Kostebrau was discontinued, and on September 30, 1962, passenger traffic between Ruhland and Lauchhammer Ost was also discontinued. The section was retained for freight traffic.

The Ruhland – Lauchhammer Ost section today serves as the station siding for the Ruhland station, mainly for handling the nearby BASF Schwarzheide GmbH , which handles its traffic to and from Ludwigshafen here.
