Railway stations in Brandenburg |
The Ruhland train station is located in the town of the same name in Ruhland in north-western Upper Lusatia in the south of the state of Brandenburg on the Grossenhain – Cottbus and Węgliniec – Roßlau railway lines . The station building is a listed building.
history
The Cottbus-Großenhainer Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft was founded at the end of the 19th century by the railroad partner Karl Eduard Zachariae von Lingenthal . With the opening of the Cottbus - Großenhain railway on April 20, 1870, the Ruhland station began operations and on October 11, 1871 it also became the administrative headquarters of the Upper Lusatian Railway Company , which on June 1, 1874 opened the Kohlfurt railway (today: Węgliniec) –Horka – Ruhland opened. Ruhland became an important junction in the Prussian railway network. On September 1, 1883, the company and the Ruhland railway station became the property of the Prussian state. This provided direct train connections to Magdeburg , Breslau (today: Wrocław) in Lower Silesia , Dresden , Prague and Cottbus. In passenger transport, the former hub between the province of Lower Silesia, Anhalt and the Kingdom of Saxony now serves exclusively as a regional transport stop . Freight traffic is now more important, especially for the industrial site around BASF Schwarzheide .
Renovation 2016
On January 31, 2016, work began on the track systems and platforms. Train operations will be maintained to a limited extent. In the first construction phase until September 2016, the section between Ruhland and Hosena will be rebuilt. The trains are partially diverted via Senftenberg or replaced by buses. The dilapidated bridges, which are ultimately only passable at 30 km / h, will also be renewed. Simultaneously with the construction of the bridges on Elsterbogen-Bernsdorfer Straße, the L 57 will be lowered in order to increase the passage for road transport.
Combined traffic terminal
The factory premises of BASF Schwarzheide GmbH are located in the neighboring town of Schwarzheide, about three kilometers away , and the Ruhland train station is of particular importance. 60,000 transports are currently handled here every year.
Former branch lines
In 1875 the Oberlausitzer Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft opened a branch line from Ruhland to the Lauchhammer ironworks, which later also received a connection to the Zschipkau-Finsterwalder Railway (ZFE). Passenger traffic ceased in 1962.
The section from Ruhland to Lauchhammer Ost still serves as an industrial siding, mainly for handling the nearby BASF Schwarzheide , which handles its traffic to and from Ludwigshafen am Rhein here.
