The Nonnweiler station is a through station on the high forest railway in the Saarland community Nonnweiler . From 1894 to 1968 it was a separation station , as the Primstalbahn branched off here during this period . Most recently, the station was only operated in museum traffic and has been closed for financial reasons since 2012.
history
The Nonnweiler station was opened on May 15, 1897 with the 22.9 kilometer long section of the Hochwaldbahn between Hermeskeil and Türkismühle . Just six months later, on December 10, 1897, the connecting line Nonnweiler - Wemmetsweiler (Primstalbahn) was inaugurated. Although the laws governing the construction of the two lines were originally different, the Hermeskeil - Türkismühle line, as a continuation of the Ruwertalbahn Trier - Hermeskeil, was finally kilometered further, while the Wemmetsweiler - Nonnweiler section was given its own kilometer, which ran from Wemmetsweiler in the direction of Nonnweiler.
Since the discontinuation of planned traffic in 1969, only museum trips of the Hochwaldbahn AG have taken place in the station from the 1990s . Due to the financial situation of this, however, the route has been closed since 2014. A reactivation for regular passenger traffic was considered several times.
Railway systems
Today the Nonnweiler station is no longer of any importance as a hub station. There used to be a triangular track in Nonnweiler, so that the Hochwaldbahn was connected to the Primstalbahn in both directions.
During its time as a separation station for passenger traffic, the station was equipped with three platform tracks. In addition, two installation or dismantling tracks, as well as two loading tracks with ramp and goods shed were available for freight traffic.
In the brick-built entrance building there was a goods shed as well as a waiting room with ticket issuance, a train station restaurant, as well as apartments and offices. In the year after the railway traffic was closed, the building lost its function. Today it is privately owned, including the goods shed, and is used as an exhibition space and residential building. In contrast to the well-preserved reception building, the rest of the station area appears neglected.
The Nonnweiler Viaduct is also in the immediate vicinity of the train station .
In the station there is a connection to the Primstal-Radweg , which partly runs on the route of the former Primstalbahn.
The station building has the official address Eisenbahnstraße 12 .
