List of train stations in Finland |
The Pasila train station ( Finnish Pasilan rautatieasema , Swedish Böle järnvägsstation ) is a train station in the Finnish capital Helsinki . It is located in the Pasila district , about three kilometers north of the center. It is the second busiest train station in the country (after Helsinki Central Station ). All local and long-distance trains that approach the main station also stop in Pasila.
location
Pasila is on the so-called main railway (päärata) of Finland. From Pasila, the route heads south to the city center on a peninsula, where it ends at the main train station. This section between Pasila and the Central Station is the busiest railway line in Finland with 25.7 million passengers per year. The tracks branch out immediately north of Pasila station: on the one hand, the main line goes north towards Tampere , and on the other hand the so-called beach tram (rantarata) goes west towards Turku .
history
The railway line through Pasila was completed in 1862, but the first passenger station was not set up until 1890. At that time Pasila was still in the country, far outside Helsinki. The first station building was very small and modest. In 1923 it was replaced by a slightly larger wooden house, which Vammeljoki relocated to Pasila on the Karelian Isthmus . This building served as a train station until 1984 and was moved about 100 meters to the east on Veturitori Square during the construction work for the current train station. The contrast with the new train station makes it clear how much traffic has increased over the years, which is mainly due to the strong population growth in the Helsinki region .
Station building
The current station building was completed in 1990. The reception hall is on a bridge across the platforms ( riding station ). Escalators and elevators lead down to the covered platforms. West of the passenger station there was a marshalling yard until 2008 . There are plans to build a new center for Pasila with up to 40-story skyscrapers at this point. To the north there is a loading point for motorail trains and a relatively large depot .
