The Shimo-Togari train station ( Japanese 下土 狩 駅 , Shimo-Togari-eki ) is a train station on the Japanese island of Honshū , operated by the JR Central railway company . It is located in Shizuoka Prefecture in the field of city Nagaizumi .

description

Shimo-Togari is a through station and former connecting station on the Gotemba line , which runs from Kōzu to Numazu . Regional trains run on it at irregular intervals (approx. Every 30 to 60 minutes), and there are individual repeater trains from Gotemba to Numazu during rush hour . The train station is located on the southern outskirts of the city and faces north to south. It has four tracks, two of which are used for passenger traffic. They are located on a partially covered central platform that is connected to the reception building on the east side of the facility by a covered overpass . Several local bus lines stop at the station forecourt.

In 2016, an average of 1,337 passengers used the station every day.

history

After the opening of the Kōzu – Gotemba – Numazu– Shizuoka section of the Tōkaidō main line in 1889, no trains stopped here. Nine years later, on June 15, 1898, the state railroad opened a station, which they named Mishima ( 三島 市 ). On the same day, the Mameshō Denki Tetsudō extended their route (today's Sunzu line of the Izuhakone Tetsudō ) to this point.

Express trains regularly stopped at this junction. This changed fundamentally on December 1, 1934 with the commissioning of a new route of the Tōkaidō main line via Atami . The western approach to the Tanna Tunnel led directly through the city center of Mishima, which is why a new train station was built two kilometers to the east . From the same day, this was also the new terminus of the Sunzu line. The old route via Gotemba was also given the new name Gotemba Line . The older train station was renamed Shimo-Togari and lost much of its former importance. On June 1, 1968, the Japanese State Railways electrified the Gotemba-Numazu section. For cost reasons, the state railway stopped handling goods on November 15, 1982, and checked baggage on February 1, 1984. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the ownership of the new company JR Central on April 1, 1987 .
