The East Asian Rundschau . The magazine for the Far East, Australia and the South Seas東方 輿論 (also: magazine for the entire interests, politics, economy and culture, East and South Asia ) was a German, monthly magazine that was published in phases by the Association for the Far East ( Berlin), the German-Chinese Association (Berlin), the East Asian Association (Hamburg-Bremen), the German-East Asian Club (Leipzig) with the Japan Institute in Berlin and the Association of German Chambers of Commerce overseas (Hamburg). The association officials Max Linde , Friedrich Wilhelm Mohr (Hamburg), Gerhard Menz , Erwin Rousselle and Friedrich Max Trautz appear as editors. It was published from February 1920 to October 1944 and was the successor to Asia , the archive for the Far East and the messages for China-Germans . It was followed by the Übersee-Rundschau from 1949 to 1990 .

The magazine was first published by the German Overseas Service , then by the Wirtschaftsdienst (Hamburg) and from 1935 by the Hanseatische Verlagsanstalt (Hamburg). The last editor-in-chief was Otto Richter , his deputy Max Drews. Special issues appeared several times.

The topics that were often topical also concerned politics, the military, the economy, law and culture and initially focused on China, then also in Japan and the Dutch East Indies . From 1934 onwards, a rapprochement with the goals of National Socialist foreign policy can be observed, especially after the rapprochement with Japan through the Anti-Comintern Pact in 1936. The establishment of a telephone connection also played a role.
