The Slagelse train station is a station on the railway line København-Fredericia .
history
On April 27, 1856, Slagelse received a railway connection for the first time with the opening of the Roskilde - Korsør (Vestbanen) line through the Sjællandske Jernbane-Selskab (SJS). To avoid major earthworks, the station was built north of the city.
In connection with the construction of the Slagelse – Næstved (via Dalmose) state railway , which was inaugurated on May 15, 1892, the Vestbanen and the station were relocated to the urban area. The new station building was designed by the state railway architect Niels Peder Christian Holsøe . In the following years, Slagelse station developed into a railway junction. On April 30, 1898, the Slagelse – Værslev line, built by the State Railways, was added to the north .
The Slagelse– Næstved line was closed on May 23, 1971 for passenger traffic and in 1975 for the freight service still operated to Dalmose , the Slagelse– Værslev line is still operated as a private railway to Høng .
The station building is a listed building. The first Slagelse station building is also still standing. It is located on the Nørre Ringgade, the course of which largely corresponds to the original railway line.
