The dressage arena is a standardized place on which tests in dressage riding are (can) be carried out. The standard dimensions of the dressage arena for performing tests of the FN are 20 × 40 meters (easy tasks: class AL) or 20 × 60 meters (difficult tasks: class MS, as well as individual tasks in class L). There are defined track points that determine the location of the track figures to be performed during a dressage test.

It is not known who determined the letters for the marking and why exactly these were chosen. There have also been attempts to introduce a more systematic track designation (e.g. in the 1936 riding regulations).
