The Basel – Dornach railway , also known as the Birseckbahn , runs from Basel to Birseck and was previously operated by the Birseckbahn (BEB). Since January 1, 1974, the successor company Baselland Transport AG (BLT) has been responsible for the meter- gauge narrow - gauge railway .

history

In 1902 the Birseckbahn opened its line to Dornach , it was electrified from the start and was built and operated like a tram. The Dornach route connected to the existing Basel tram network at the Münchensteinerstrasse stop ; the route was built up to the canton border at Dreispitz by the Basel trams (BStB), today's Basler Verkehrsbetriebe (BVB). They also took over the management of the Dornach line until 1916, with trains running continuously from Aeschenplatz from the start. The short final section Dornach Bahnhof – Dornachbrugg was closed on November 3, 1969. When the BLT was founded in 1974, the Dornach Line was given the number 10. In 1986, this radial line was expanded to a diameter line, this was done by linking it to the Basel – Rodersdorf railway line, which is also part of the BLT . In 2010, the section from Arlesheim Stollenrain to Dornach Bahnhof was expanded to double lanes, which enabled line 10 to run every 7.5 minutes.
