The Belmont Junction – Belmont railway is a former rail link in New Hampshire ( United States ). It is around 6.5 kilometers long and connects the cities of Tilton and Belmont . The route is closed.

history

The small town of Belmont tried in the early 1880s to connect to the Concord – Wells River mainline . In 1883 the Tilton and Belmont Railroad Company was founded, which carried out the construction. The route was opened around 1888 and operated from the start by the Boston, Concord and Montreal Railroad . In 1889, however, this merged with other companies to form the Concord and Montreal Railroad , which now also took over the branch line to Belmont. In 1895 it was replaced by the Boston and Maine Railroad , which Concord & Montreal had bought.

The route brought in only a little and so in April 1929 passenger traffic and in August 1930 freight traffic were stopped. The official shutdown took place in 1934. The line was then dismantled.

Route description

The line branches off at Belmont Junction in the city of Tilton from the Concord – Wells River railway and runs eastward. Shortly after the junction, the route crosses an extension of Silver Lake . The bridge is no longer there. Gardner's Grove stop is reached directly after the bridge . The route now runs south-east, only to turn east again shortly before Tioga . The terminus in Belmont was on the western edge of the city. Today, Depot Street (Bahnhofstrasse) is still reminiscent of the railway.
