Franz Andreas Holly

Franz Andreas Holly ( František Ondřej Holý , born November 28, 1747 in Netolice , † May 4, 1783 in Breslau ) was a Bohemian composer.

Life

Holly was believed to have been a student of the Jesuits in Prague and then possibly joined the Franciscan Order . In 1768 or 1769 he became a member of Johann Joseph von Brunian's theater troupe at the Theater an der Kotzen in Prague and succeeded the former music director Johann Baptist Savio as répétiteur . When the troupe was reorganized in April 1772, Holly became its Kapellmeister. In 1773 at the latest, he traveled to Berlin with an actor from the company, Karl Franz Henisch , who also wrote some librettos . From 1774 until his death he was the musical director of the Wäserschen traveling theater troupe in Breslau . Holly composed a number of choral plays and drama music.
