Brussels – Charleroi railway line

The Brussels – Charleroi railway connects the Brussels agglomeration area with Charleroi via Nivelles and Marchienne-au-Pont .

Operation and history

The railway line built by the "Etat Belge" was opened in several sections:

  • October 23, 1843: Charleroi – Luttre
  • September 20, 1873: Brussel Zuid – Kalevoet
  • December 22nd, 1873: Kalevoet – St Genesius Rode
  • February 1, 1874: St Genesius Rode – Waterloo
  • March 10, 1874: Waterloo – Braine l'Alleud
  • April 10, 1874: Braine l'Alleud – Lillois
  • June 1, 1874: Lillois – Luttre

In the 1940s the railway line was electrified (3 kV).
