Brussels – Charleroi railway line
The Brussels – Charleroi railway connects the Brussels agglomeration area with Charleroi via Nivelles and Marchienne-au-Pont .
Operation and history
The railway line built by the "Etat Belge" was opened in several sections:
- October 23, 1843: Charleroi – Luttre
- September 20, 1873: Brussel Zuid – Kalevoet
- December 22nd, 1873: Kalevoet – St Genesius Rode
- February 1, 1874: St Genesius Rode – Waterloo
- March 10, 1874: Waterloo – Braine l'Alleud
- April 10, 1874: Braine l'Alleud – Lillois
- June 1, 1874: Lillois – Luttre
In the 1940s the railway line was electrified (3 kV).
